Explore EPR Schemes for Packaging Across the EU
This interactive map offers an overview of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes for packaging currently in place across the 27 European Union Member States. While not exhaustive, the map aims to present the most accurate and up-to-date picture possible of how these schemes operate, who the key stakeholders are, and the level of transparency they provide.
EPR Scheme: Outlines the type of EPR scheme in place (competitive, non-competitive, state fund).
Deposit Return Systems (DRS) for beverages: Indicates whether a country has implemented a DRS, a system where consumers pay a deposit on beverage containers, which is refunded when the container is returned.
Household packaging Producer Responsibility Organisations (PROs): Lists the organisations responsible for managing household packaging waste on behalf of producers, and how many operate in each country.
Industrial packaging PROs: Similar to household PROs, but covering industrial and commercial packaging waste.
Whether a not-for-profit objective is required: Specifies if the law requires PROs to operate on a not-for-profit basis, which can affect the transparency and purpose of the scheme.
